Alnus rhombifolia, the white alder, is an alder tree native to western North America, from British Columbia and Washington east to western Montana, southeast to the Sierra Nevada, and south through the Peninsular Ranges and Colorado Desert oases in Southern California. There is a bike/ped bridge there leading to the Hartwell Trail, which traverses Hartwell Park in Long Beach for 2.3 miles to end at Clark St. On your right is Wal Mart. There is also a 9-hole disc golf course at the north end of the park. The main trunk can fork close to the ground, making it look like two trees that have grown together, then diverged.     Artemisia douglasiana (California Mugwort, Douglas's Sagewort or Dream Plant) is an aromatic herb in the genus Artemisia. It grows as a leafless viney plant with slender orange to yellowy stems that fasten to their host plant by means of a knobb,y root-like structure called a haustoria. It is the most common falcon in North America, and is found in a wide variety of habitats.
